After making some moves to gear up for the stretch run, the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox open a 3-game series
The Boston Red Sox (60-51), with five straight wins and 23-3 in their last 26 games, come off a busy trade deadline on Monday to host the Chicago White Sox (59-52) on Tuesday to open a three-game series at Fenway Park in Boston. Chicago made a couple of moves as well on Monday as they lead the Cleveland Guardians by three games in the American League Central, but the Red Sox pulled off one of the biggest deals of the deadline, landing All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles.

Boston returns home off a three-game road sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rutschman adds offense behind the plate once he is cleared to return from the injured list due to left wrist inflammation. The Red Sox also acquired left-handed reliever Erik Miller, giving up shortstop Marcelo Mayer in the deal, and picked up veteran outfielder Eli White from the Atlanta Braves. Boston holds the second wild-card spot in the American League and trails the New York Yankees by two games for the top position.
The White Sox took two of three from the Tampa Bay Rays on the first leg of their road trip and added right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán from the New York Mets to bolster the bullpen. Chicago already brought in right-handed starter Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners before the trade deadline and Brazobán slots into the spot in the back end of the bullpen vacated when Seranthony Domínguez went to Seattle in the Castillo deal. The Sox also brought in catcher Joey Bart from Atlanta.
Left-hander Patrick Sandoval takes the ball for the Red Sox on Tuesday night, entering with a 3.32 ERA and 1.579 WHIP in four starts and 19 innings, striking out 20. Chicago goes with right-hander Davis Martin (9-5), who comes in with a 3.62 ERA and 1.265 WHIP in 117 innings over 21 starts.
