The golf world’s eyes head toward Scotland this weekend with the Open Championship having come and gone, with Cameron Young winning his first career major last week. The Senior Open Championship will take place at the historic Gleneagles King’s Course in Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. This tournament was established in 1987, and the prize fund is nearly $3,000,000, with Padraig Harrington of Ireland as the defending champion. It was an extra-sweet victory for Harrington in the first year of the IPS Handa Senior Open at the Sunningdale Golf Club in Sunningdale, Berkshire, England, as he was the runner-up in this tournament in 2022 and 2023. This is the first time that this event has been held at the Gleneagles King’s Course since 2022, when Darren Clarke won the tournament. Coverage of today’s event starts at 8:30 a.m. ET, running through 12 p.m. ET, and then the main coverage window will shift to NBC from noon to 2:00 p.m. ET. Harrington goes into the second half of this tournament sitting at +2, while Johnson sits even with the cutoff set at five-over par, which has narrowed this field to 79, which started at 144 golfers. Percy of Australia leads the field, sitting at -9 under par, shooting an impressive 63 in the first round and a 68 in the second. Jerry Kelly is the closest to Percy, who is -6 under par, followed by Ernie Els, who is -4 under par. The top three leaders in this tournament will tee off right before 10:00 a.m. ET. Markus Brier and Henrik Stenson are also tied for third, shooting -4 under par going into Saturday. Percy’s 63 in the first round was the best of the top eight golfers, closely followed by a 64 in the first round on Thursday by Lionel Alexandre, who is tied for sixth. But Alexandre shot a 73 on Day 2. Can anyone make a move on Day 3 and challenge Percy heading into Sunday?
