Kyle Manzardo led the charge for the Guardians in Game 1 on Tuesday, hitting the first grand slam of his career, which came in the very first inning. The Reds would go on a run, though, scoring four in the fourth inning to take a one-run lead after Stewart hit a solo shot in the third. Cleveland would tie the game in the fifth on a sac fly, and then Chase DeLauter drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice bunt. While the Reds weren’t able to rally at the end of the series opener, they bounced back in Game 2 in large part due to the performance of their entire pitching staff. Across five pitchers who helped toss a shutout, the Reds only gave up three hits. Cincinnati needed it, though, because the Reds’ offense only had three hits as well. JJ Bleday hit a solo shot in the first, and Cincy scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning, which was enough to tie the series. Cleveland’s starter Gavin Williams had his night spoiled, earning the loss after only giving up three hits and two runs across seven innings with 12 strikeouts.
