The Brewers are currently in first place in the National League Central standings with a record of 65-39 and have a six-game lead over the second place Cubs. On Friday night, the Rockies picked up a 5-2 victory to open the series, but the Brewers bounced back on Saturday, winning 8-5 behind a strong showing from Robert Gasser, who improved to 3-4 on the season following six innings in which he gave up five hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters. Luis Lara led the offensive efforts for Milwaukee, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs, hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning and a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
The Rockies had a decent night offensively, but could not slow the Milwaukee offense to secure the series win. Hunter Goodman opened the scoring for Colorado with an RBI single to tie the game up in the top of the fourth, but the Brewers pulled away. Jake McCarthy closed the gap slightly in the top of the ninth with a two-run single and Kyle Karros followed with an RBI single, but it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit.
Colorado will give the ball to Kyle Freeland on Sunday afternoon, while Jacob Misiorowski will get the start for Milwaukee. Freeland comes into the game with a record of 2-9 and an ERA of 7.28, while Misiorowski is sitting at 10-4 with an ERA of 1.57, giving the Brewers a clear advantage.
