The Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants are looking to bounce back from weekend sweeps as they start this new series on Monday.
The Texas Rangers look to turn things around when they host the San Francisco Giants starting on Monday night. This is a rematch of the 2010 World Series, and it will be the only series of the season between these interleague rivals. The Rangers are trying to end a five-game losing streak that has dropped them into second place in the close American League West race. The Rangers were in first place in the division for a while, but have fallen out with the help of the Houston Astros winning six straight. That includes a sweep of the Rangers in Houston in Texas’ last series over the weekend. Texas is trying to get back to .500 now with a 55-57 record and a 28-25 mark at home. The Giants are also coming off the wrong side of a sweep against their division rivals over the weekend against the San Diego Padres. The Giants traded right-hander Tyler Mahle to the Atlanta Braves before the deadline in exchange for righty reliever Anthony Molina. San Francisco was definitely a seller at the trade deadline this year with a 47-65 record and a 21-38 away record. This game will essentially be a coin flip, though, with Texas holding an ever-so-slight -109 line to win this opener. The Giants are at -110.

Yordan Alvarez was just too much in the series finale against Houston on Sunday, with the Astros winning 7-3 to complete the sweep. The Houston DH tied a career high with four hits, and he drove in two runs. Houston now leads the AL West by 2.5 games over Texas. Jeremy Pena hit a homer in the fourth inning to give the Astros a 3-0 lead to start the game. But by the seventh inning, the Rangers had tied the game with a solo shot from Brandon Nimmo. Unfortunately for Texas, their bullpen melted down in the bottom of the inning, giving up four runs to lose the game. Texas will try to bounce back tonight by starting Cal Quantrill. The righty is 4-3 with a 3.84 ERA in 58.2 innings.
The Giants lost their last two games by one run against the Padres, including a 5-4 loss on Sunday. San Francisco gave up four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Jackson Merrill. The Giants kept fighting back, though, and got within one run in the fifth on a solo shot from third baseman Osleivis Basabe. San Diego would eventually get the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth, even though the Giants got back within one again in the eighth on a solo homer from Rafael Devers. San Francisco will start their ace in the opener, Logan Webb, who is 6-7 with a 3.93 ERA in 119 innings.
