The Tampa Bay Rays go for their fourth win in a row on Tuesday night, when they begin a three-game series against the Texas Rangers.
The Tampa Bay Rays (62-43) sit at the top of both the American League and American League East standings, but the pressure is on. As the second half of the season begins, they’re trying to hold off the New York Yankees and a red-hot Boston Red Sox team. After dropping four in a row against the Red Sox to open the second half though, they’ve been excellent. Following that Red Sox series they took three of four at the Toronto Blue Jays, and then swept the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend. Finally on Monday the Rays got their first off day since the All-Star break, and return on Tuesday at home hosting the Texas Rangers (54-52).

The Rangers themselves are holding onto a narrow lead at the top of the American League West, just a couple of games up on both the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros. They built a little bit of a cushion in their last series though, as they took three of four games from the Seattle Mariners. That series wrapped up on Monday, with the Rangers grabbing a 7-3 win.
Righty Griffin Jax will start this game for the Rays, coming off of a start against the Blue Jays last week that saw him allow just three hits and one run in a winning effort. The Rangers will go with righty Cal Quantrill, who is making his sixth start and 22nd total appearance of the season.
