Four-time Canadian Premier League champion Cavalry FC can move to within a single point of table leader Forge FC on Friday if it manages to take all three points from its visit to Vancouver FC. The Cavs recently dropped off slightly in the title pace following an unexpected slip and are currently second in the standings, four points off the pace being set by title favorite Forge. Vancouver is a full 10 points behind, but still resides in fourth for the time being, knowing anything but a win on Friday puts the club in jeopardy of being bounced out of playoff places at a crucial point in the calendar.

Cavalry’s hopes of clawing back the lead Forge FC has built over the first half of the campaign was dented following a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to HFX Wanderers its last time out.

Cavalry FC is still yet to record a loss against the Eagles in 16 meetings to date (excluding penalty shootouts), though six of their last eight showdowns have ended in draws.
That’s more encouraging for Vancouver than anyone else, and the prospect of facing the Cavs fresh from disappointment against Halifax also works in favor of Martin Nash’s side.
Nash would love nothing more than to get his first win in this fixture on the board after being confirmed as Vancouver’s new permanent boss at the start of the year.
Meanwhile Cavalry counterpart Tommy Wheeldon Jr. will be desperate to see the status quo remain as he seeks to keep Forge FC in check.
