Royals return home after dreadful road trip to begin mid-week series against the Twins
After taking two of three games off the Kansas City Royals last week, the Minnesota Twins head to Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night as they begin a three-game mid-week series against the Royals for the second straight week. The Royals went 3-7 on their season-longest 10-game road trip, including four straight losses, but have been stellar at home, winning seven of their last eight games as they send former Twins pitcher Randy Dobnak (1-0, 1.04 ERA) to the mound in his sixth appearance since being called up from Triple-A in early July. The Twins will start veteran right-hander Joe Ryan (6-7, 3.52 ERA, who looks to rebound after allowing a combined seven home runs in his last two starts.

Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. makes his return to the lineup on Tuesday after landing on the Injured List with a back issue that kept the three-time All-Star sidelined since mid-July. Witt, the number two overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, has twice won a Gold Glove for his defensive efforts at short, and was the 2024 MLB batting champion when he hit a career-high .332 at the plate while becoming the first player since Barry Bonds to post consecutive 30/30 seasons.
Three hits away from his 10th career 100-hit season, Twins designated hitter Josh Bell leads the team in hits and RBIs this season with 63 runs batted in. Bell, in his 11th season in the Majors, is in his first season in Minnesota after being traded three times in a two-year span.
