This series is now tied 2-2, and the win was an even bigger deal for the Blue Jays, as it ended Houston’s six-game winning streak. The Astros had won 11 of their last 12 games, and since being swept by the Baltimore Orioles to open the second half of the season, Houston has lost just two games, including the opener on Monday. This streak has catapulted the Astros into first place in the AL West, where no team has been able to run away with the division so far. Houston has kept a 2.5-game advantage over the Texas Rangers despite the loss in the opener. That is because the Rangers have now lost six straight games. The Astros are the -131 favorite to tie this series up on Tuesday. They will try to do that by starting Hayden Wesneski. The righty made his season debut at the end of July, earning the victory against the Los Angeles Angels, giving up three runs across 5.2 innings. The Blue Jays will start postseason hero last season, Trey Yesavage. The sophomore righty is 5-5 with a 3.73 ERA in 91.2 innings.

Toronto started Game 1 with a bang in the second inning with a solo shot from Alejandro Kirk. Jesus Sanchez and Ernie Clement each added another RBI in the fourth inning to put Toronto on top for good. The Astros scored their first and only run in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Jeremy Pena. It was the only run that Shane Bieber gave up in 5.2 innings. It was a bend-but-don’t-break night from Bieber, who gave up nine hits but struck out six to improve to 3-2 on the season. Cristian Javier didn’t pitch poorly at all, going six innings, but gave up all three runs, and he just couldn’t get much run support.
