The Arizona Diamondbacks (53-49) look for their third straight win on Thursday when they open a 10-game road trip with a visit to the St. Louis Cardinals (52-49) at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The game, a makeup of a June 25 postponement, comes as Arizona comes off a 4-2 homestand while the Cardinals stopped a four-game losing streak with a getaway-day victory on Wednesday to close out a 2-4 trip out West that included losing two of three to the Diamondbacks over the weekend.

The Diamondbacks set a season high for runs in a 15-5 rout of the Athletics on Wednesday to clinch the series win. Arizona broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth inning and added five more in the sixth. Corbin Carroll, Nolan Arenado, Gabriel Moreno, Ryan Waldschmidt and James McCann all homered in the blowout while Merrill Kelly worked five innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
Hunter Dobbins worked six scoreless innings and JJ Wetherholt’s solo home run in the sixth provided all the scoring as St. Louis beat the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 on Wednesday. Dobbins scattered six hits and struck out five, combining with three relievers on a seven-hitter to salvage the series finale in Anaheim as the Cardinals had just three hits of their own. Dobbins, recalled from Triple-A Memphis for the start, made his first big-league appearance since July 7.
Right-hander Michael McGreevy (4-7) draws the start for the Cardinals, coming in with a 2.92 ERA and 1.102 WHIP in 19 starts and 108 innings. Arizona gives the ball to right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (4-1), who enters with a 4.58 ERA and 1.305 WHIP in 17 appearances, including seven starts, covering 59 innings.
